April Educational Luncheon

AALPI's next Educational Luncheon will be held at Dobson Restaurant, 2155 South Dobson Road, Mesa, AZ 85202. An AALPI BOD meeting will start at 10am, followed by lunch, and the educational part of the luncheon @ 11:30 or so. The meeting will end @ 1pm.

We will have a presentation by ATAP, the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. The speaker will explain risk and threat assessment and workplace violence issues and investigations

Jeff Gentry, CTM, NREMT

Jeff is a long time Arizona resident.  He graduated High School in Chandler. Subsequently, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Philosophy, and Spanish from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.  

Jeff began his Law Enforcement Career in 1992 in Atchison, Kansas. He worked in patrol, detectives, and intensive supervision of convicted adults and juveniles. Jeff assisted in the reform of the Kansas Juvenile Justice System and the creation of the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority.  

In October 2001 Jeff furthered his career by joining the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona. Jeff worked as the very first Inmate Telephone Monitor in a newly formed Intelligence Unit.  He quickly gained favor with the agency and was hired as a detective and assigned to the Intelligence Unit in May 2003.  In April 2004 Jeff was transferred to the Threat Management Unit where he became the main threat assessor for Maricopa County and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, “America’s Toughest Sheriff.” 

Jeff remained part of the Threat Management Unit through two promotions, first to Sergeant in 2006 and ultimately Lieutenant in 2014.  During that time, Jeff also supervised the Criminal Apprehension and Surveillance Team (CAST), the Financial Crimes Unit, the Cyber Crimes Unit including ICAC, and created the Electronic Evidence and Remote Surveillance Unit (EEARS), as well as serving as Commander of the Maricopa County Drug Suppression Task Force (MCDST).  

In July 2017 Jeff was transferred to the Lake Patrol Division where he supervised the Detective Unit, Search and Rescue, Dive Team, Medical Team, and the Underwater Remote Operated Vehicle Unit. During his time at Lake Patrol, Jeff learned to operate various water crafts, he learned to SCUBA Dive, and he earned his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.  

Jeff is the recipient of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Meritorious Service Medal (2006) and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Distinguished Service Medal (2018). 

Since 2004 Jeff has been a member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP). This is a group of like-minded people hailing from a variety of professions with the goal of reducing and preventing targeted violence. 

Jeff is the current President of the Arizona Chapter of ATAP.  In addition, Jeff also serves the Association as the Chairman of the Law Enforcement Community, which is a community within the organization that is committed to identifying and implementing best practices and offering standardized resources to law enforcement agencies, mental health professionals, and corporations throughout the world that work threat investigations.  Jeff previously served ATAP as Vice President of the Arizona Chapter (2005 – 2009) and as the National Secretary (2009 – 2013).

Jeff is a Certified Threat Manager (CTM).  The CTM certification came online in 2015.  Jeff was among the first nine persons to officially become certified.  This signifies that Jeff has achieved expert level credibility in threat assessment from a multi-discipline approach. 

In his spare time, Jeff and his wife are avid movie goers. Jeff officiates football at the high school and collegiate levels as well as Softball at the high school and collegiate levels. On December 1, 2018 Jeff officiated in his first College Football Bowl Game.
