President’s Message

May 2019

One and all,

This is a sort of a state of AALPI report. Sometimes it is hard to conceive of all that our volunteer Board of Directors do off the clock. We have other volunteers that also step up to improve our association. There is quite a bit that has been done and more that we are attempting to do.

With the new year came an offer worked out with PI Magazine. A yearly subscription to the magazine with a renewed membership paid by February 15th. AALPI also runs an ad in the magazine promoting our association. This directs prospective clients who are looking to hire Arizona Licensed Private Investigators to our website. Once there, they now can find a searchable mechanism to find the investigators that they need. All members are able to customize their listing. PI Magazine will be at our conference. They also offer a 10% discount to AALPI Members on books and PI Gear!

We have had two Educational Luncheons and have one more planned later this year.

Roger Biel, our AALPI webmaster spoke at the first luncheon about our website and gave tips on how to use it. Several suggestions came from the attendee’s on how to improve the website. Some of these suggestions are being used today. Roger is still working on a “push” system for near instantaneous messaging to inform members of jobs and other updates.

Thank you Roger!

At our April Educational Luncheon, we had Jeff Gentry, President of the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. ATAP is an organization of professionals that do threat and risk assessments in the hope of preventing violence. This is most prevalent in Workplace Violence, church and school Active Shooter prevention. Jeff gave us a brief rundown on the methods used to do such investigations and how to apply preventative measures. Thank you, Jeff! We had about a quarter of our membership show up for this educational offering!

Our membership drive is just getting started. Member Steven Mason, with the help of Donna Vangury, have put together about a thousand email addresses of Arizona investigators and sent our message out via MailChimp. Great Job!

AALPI is way ahead of last year in getting the annual AALPI-APSA conference together. Our VP, Bob Nalett, Tina Thomas, and others have pretty much put the speaker’s program together. Our bookkeeper, Pat Nichols, has negotiated even a better deal for our hotel rooms. $20 off of last year’s rate!

The conference will be held at last year’s location on September 7thand 8th, at the Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigleyville West, located at 860 N. Riverview in Mesa, Arizona 85201. There will be more information soon!

Member Brian Devine has stepped up produce “The Chronicle”, AALPI’s e-newsletter. Brian is looking for PI related stories, legislation, and other suggestions. If you or anyone else would like to advertise in the Chronicle, please contact Brian.

Anyway, your BOD is working for you. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Volunteers are gratefully appreciated. What can you do for your association?

Good thoughts, good words, good deeds,

Daniel Bekins

AALPI President
